German-born sculptor Petra Azar has turned her art background into a magnetic, modular jewelry line with an artsy twist.
“You become the architect of your own jewelry,” says Azar about her sterling silver jewelry accented with diamonds or white sapphire pavé. “Chandelier inserts can swap out from pendant to earrings, for example. And the jewelry will evolve over time as additional components are purchased.”
Inspired by the indelible bond between mother and child, Azar started with artfully segmented heart-shaped pendants, joined together by magnets as metaphor for the “magnetic power of love.”
The line has since expanded considerably using the same patented process.
Now her magnetic jewelry consists of necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings with components that are modular and interchangeable. From rounded pieces to Deco-inspired linear looks, inserts can be simple or longer and swinging.
Retails range from $300 to $800.
